david has always said "i think everyone should make at least one album," and i feel the same way about zines. i know there are people who think there are too many zines out there, but to me the beauty of zines is that anyone can create one, and i suggest every do it at least once. if you've never made a zine - or even if you are a seasoned veteran - this book is for you. chock full of tips and tricks from layout suggestions to copy scams to how to get your zine sold in stores if you so wish. also contains instructions on how to make your own paper, how to silkscreen, how to blockprint, how to bind books, how to get records pressed, and more! extensive distro and store listings are also housed inside the lovely matte red cover of this super informative book. recommended for everyone, but especially vital for zine newbies.

a.j. always puts out quality stuff, whether it be her own writing or compilations of others', and this is no exception. this new issue of the zine formerly known as "low hug" is subtitled "jettisoned! treasures tossed out before their time," and contains writing on that very subject by davida gypsy breier, kannan naik, clutch mcb, carrie mcninch, and many others. still not sure about the "jettisoned" concept? a.j. explains "everyone has done it once, probably multiple times. you gave away, sold, or otherwise discarded an item and later experienced frustrating regret. and it will happen again." reading these tales made me think of the time i gave my old roommate a completely full and intact bottle of debbie gibson's electric youth perfume - man, do i want that back. i'm also still pondering whether or not to put my teddy ruxpin up on ebay, and maybe a re-read of this zine will convince me to hang on to it lest i regret it. a great read with a wonderful clean layout.
